Five sectors, one shared condition — the operation cannot stop.
The systems differ. The constraint does not. Every estate below runs on equipment that was bought at different times, under different contracts, and cannot be taken offline to be fixed.
Ports and container terminals
A terminal is measured on the time between a vessel arriving and the last box leaving the gate. Nothing in that chain runs on one system. The terminal operating system plans the yard, the gate solution decides who enters, and the equipment reports to neither.
Operations, gate, yard and equipment systems brought under one operating picture, so a slot allocated in planning is the slot the driver is sent to.

Airports
The aircraft turn is the fixed point. Cargo handling, ground operations and landside access all work to it, and each one is typically procured separately with its own reporting.

Roads and highways
Tolling and enforcement are decided at the roadside and settled in the back office. The gantry reads a plate in milliseconds; the transaction it produces has to survive reconciliation, dispute and audit weeks later.

Railways and intermodal
The road-to-rail handover is where two scheduling regimes meet. A wagon is planned days ahead; the truck bringing the box to it is planned the same morning.
